Suggestions for Trapping Law Changes

We need suggestions from our members on what they want to see changed in the trapping laws. Do not list changes to racoons as they will go nowhere with the current makeup of the Wildlife Commission. Please fill in the attached and either e-mail it to Darrell Woodward or mail it to him. His contact info is below. Trappers Workshop

With the guidance and hard work by Janice Johnson, we will be having a trappers workshop at Gentry Creek on Eufaula Lake from May 31, 2013 thru June 2, 2013.  We will have pulled pork for lunch Sat. so bring a side dish or dessert to go with it. If your unfamiliar with the workshop, it is sitting around a campfire and telling  stories and demonstrating trapping techniques.  No formal meeting, none of the stuff that keeps a lot of us too busy to relax and shoot the bull. A lot of us camp out and some just show up for the day. Either way, please come out. We have also been known to do a little fishing and noodling. Although it is generally a little early, we still give the noodling a try. We want to invite out any of the Youth Trappers that missed out on the camp...

Auction March 2, 2013 Results

We had a very full auction in March with a lot fur. We had to restrict the number of lots per seller to 10. This was necessary to keep us from running into the late evening. It also helped the trapper by making them bundle. This also kept the buyers from getting frustrated and leaving like happened 7 yrs or so ago.  OFBA Animal Totals W/ Prep Breakdown   3/2/2013 Badger  Animal Total:            3  Sale Total:  $32.50   Min  $7.50    Max  $15.00 Avg  $10.83 Green Prep Animal Total:              3     Prep Amount:            $32.50 Avg                        $10.83 Min                        $7.50                        Max                        $15.00 Beaver  Animal Total:       434  Sale Total:  $3,675.50  Min     $1.00  Max $20.00 Avg  $8.47 Green Prep Animal Total:           382     Prep Amount:        $2,804.50 Avg                        $7.34 Min                        $1.00                        Max                        $18.00 Stretched Prep Animal Total:            52     Prep Amount:          $871.00 Avg                        $16.75 Min                        $12.00                        Max                        $20.00 Bobcat  Animal Total:       682  Sale Total:  $86,578.50  Min     $5.00  Max $480.00...

February 2013 Auction Results

We just had our first of two auction this year. The turn out for sellers was lower than expected. They must be opting to go only to the second sale as we have more names than expected for that one. The trappers who sold at the Chandler sale should be happy, particularly with cat prices as we set a high average. See full results below. Belated Appreciation

I had previously posted the names of people and organizations that had donated to the association at the NTA Convention. I failed to make a post on people who donated time and material at the 2012 Wildlife Expo and at the Fall convention. I am sorry for the omission. At the Wildlife Expo there were Terry and Pam Waggoner, Gene and Cloyce Callaway, Cody Presley, Darrell Woodward, Ron and Vivian Scott, Leo Farmer, David and Rhonda Marsh and their Grandson Kyler. At the convention there were of course the ladies who handled the food prep, Cloyce Callaway, Rhonda Marsh, Margie Dodson, Janice Johnson and Renee Weygandt. For donations we had some fine items from cage traps to stretchers and from bait to knives. Thanks goes out to Terry Waggoner, Clifton Ray, Jeb Hollingshead, RC Edgar and Tracy Anderson. I will add the demo’s as soon as I can find my list. But until...

Youth Camp

I hate to disappoint everyone, but after looking at the weather forecast and talking it over, it has been decided to cancel the youth camp due to weather. Not only was the issue the snow due tomorrow, but the temperature and wind were factors. Glenda Walls, whose land we were going to utilize along with lands owned by the Tharp family and friends, indicated that the area was prone to blizzard type conditions. With the temperatures not allowing good melting and the expected winds, there was good chance of 2-3 foot snow drifts. You add that to the other storm front expected on Friday, we just couldn’t take the risk with the kids. Not everyone has sleeping bags for this low of a temperature, nor do they realize it until about 12:30am. Trust me I know, 10yrs ago I suffered through a 3 degree night with a 32 degree...
